It is a normal experience to hear some hissing, buzzing or roaring sound in our ears once in a while. Almost every one of us has gone through this experience more than once in our lifetime. We would normally go through this experience only for a few seconds to a few minutes. There are some however, who would have a ringing ears that would not go away and is progressing in volume, and this is a symptom called tinnitus.

These ringing ears that one may hear cannot come from an external source; hence the noise may only be heard by the person having the condition. The characteristic of the ringing ears varies from every person experiencing it. Some may have it intermittently while others experience it constantly.
